ISLAMABAD: Scores of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) activists were reportedly stopped from entering Islamabad to participate in a huge public gathering held at the Parade Ground to mark the party’s 50th Foundation Day on Tuesday.
According to reports, the federal administration blocked the entrances to Islamabad as PPP caravans were still making their way to the Parade Ground. Rallies from Gujar Khan, Gujrat, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mirpur, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Narowal, Nankana Sahib, Mandi Bahauddin and Sheikhupura were stopped outside the city limits.
Some of the angry jiyalas staged a demonstration on GT Road in Rawat area when police allegedly stopped their vehicles from entering the Islamabad Expressway. Reports said that hundreds of workers were forced to walk to the venue of the rally due to barricades set up by the police. A day earlier, the Islamabad civic authorities had stopped PPP workers from putting up streamers near Zero Point advertising the public meeting held on Tuesday.
